Maya Scott Chung & Leisha AndersLeisha Anders (right) is certified in Chi Nei Tsang (Chi Nei Tsang Institute - Berkeley, California), Myofascial Massage and Shiatsu (Chicago School of Massage Therapy - Chicago, Illinois). She has been a bodyworker for nine years and was inspired to teach by her work with the Aids Alternative Health Project in Chicago. For the last four years she has been an instructor of Anatomy and Kinesiology at the National Holistic Institute in Emeryville, California. Her life practice is inspired through living passionately in the most magical way she can imagine and sharing healing and wellness through touch.

Beverly A. Burns, M.S., L.Ac. maintains a private practice in San Francisco where she treats people with cancer. In addition, Ms. Burns has worked extensively to help establish the Charlotte Maxwell Complementary Clinic (CMCC), a clinic for low-income women with cancer. CMCC is the first acupuncture clinic established as a primary care facility in the State of California. Ms. Burns is currently the Medical Director of CMCC and works to increase access to complementary treatments for all women living with cancer. Ms. Burns is pursuing her long standing commitment to treating people with cancer. Beverly works at UCSF’s Osher Center for Integrative Medicine where she is participating in a clinical model working with physicians and other Complementary Alternative Medicine providers in order to provide optimum care. In addition, she is participating in studies involving the use of acupuncture and herbal therapy for women with cancer, including those with metastatic disease at the UCSF Breast Care Center.

Misha R. Cohen, OMD, L.Ac, has practiced Asian traditional medicine for 29 years. She is Clinical Director of Chicken Soup Chinese Medicine, Founder of Quan Yin Healing Arts Center, Visiting Researcher at the Institute for Health and Aging at UCSF, and and Associate Member of the UCSF Cancer Center, all in San Francisco. She also sits on the Board of Directors of the Society for Acupuncture Research. Dr. Cohen has lectured throughout the world and is a respected expert in chronic disease and Chinese medicine. For 21 years, she has conducted acupuncture and herbal research in HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis, endometriosis, HPV-related cancers, ovarian cancer and related disorders. She has written The Chinese Way to Healing: Many Paths to Wholeness (1996), The HIV Wellness Sourcebook (1998) and The Hepatitis C Help Book (St. Martin's Press 2000). Her clinical specialties include women's health, gynecology, fertility enhancement, chronic viral illnesses, and cancer support.
 

Cathi Dennehy, Pharm. D., FCSHP is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). She is Director of the Pharmacy Practice Residency Program. Her areas of specialty are herbal medicine, anticoagulation and women’s health. Dr. Dennehy co-coordinates an evidence-based course in herbal remedies and dietary supplements at UCSF. She has co-authored book chapters, coordinated CE programs and served as a consultant to various organizations and journal publications on this subject and is nationally known for her expertise in this area.

face.René Hicks is a unique composite: daughter of a Pentecostal preacher, accountant, international comedian, cancer survivor, and humor healer.
Ms. Hicks was the 1st African-American woman ever nominated for an American Comedy Award for "Best Female Stand-Up". She is a two-time recipient of the NACA College Comedian of the Year Award and appeared on her own show - Comedy Central Presents René Hicks and on ABC's Politically Incorrect, and NBC's Comedy Showcase. René will be the MC for our day of rejuvenation.

Ellen Hughes, MD, PhD, Director of Education at the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine, is Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine at UCSF. Dr. Hughes has been actively involved in development of the new UCSF medical school curriculum. She has designed and taught several CAM electives at UCSF, lectured extensively on CAM, and presented workshops on CAM education at the American Association of Medical Colleges meetings. She has taught allopathic and CAM courses in the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Physical Therapy. Dr. Hughes was awarded the prestigious Kaiser Award for Excellence in Teaching by clinical faculty at UCSF, the first Humanism in Medicine Award by the class of 2000, and has received six major teaching awards from medical school students.

Gloria Ng is a state-certified instructor of reflexology. Her extensive training in the healing arts encompasses bodywork, energywork, and YES! arts. She has over 10 certificates, including Diplomate of Homeopathy, Reiki Master, Master Bodyworker, Holistic Health Counselor, Gardening and Compost Educator, Post-Partum Doula and Spiritual Counselor. Her current passion is sewing, woodworking, and creating holistic health with after school kids. She has presented at local non-profits, salons, conferences, and University of California campuses. She is available for sessions, consultations, classes, tutorship and staff appreciation days.

Trinity A. Ordona, Ph.D., teaches self-healing to female survivors of sexual violence. Former Associate Director of the Lesbian Health Research Center-UCSF, Trinity also teaches a class on lesbian relationships at CCSF and is a recognized community leader with 35 years experience organizing in the women's, Asian/Pacific and lesbian communities in the U.S. and around the world.

 

Freesia Paclebar-Huth (Dancer) has been dancing in the Bay Area since she was three. A native San Franciscan, she was a competitive ice skater in her youth, performing atop the Emporium-Capwell in their yearly rooftop ice show. She studied dance at Mills College, was a founding member of Patricia Reedy and Dancers, and has performed with Colette Bisher-Choate, Unbound Spirit, George Latimer, and New York choreographer, David Rousseve’s Reality Company. Freesia has studied yoga and teaches tai chi to adults. She is also one of the original partners of Luna Kids Dance and the mom of two almost teenaged boys. Freesia currently facilitates Purple Moon’s workshops for the San Francisco Department of Public Health-Latino Commission and Lyon-Martin Women’s Health Services.

Maya Scott Chung & Leisha AndersMaya Scott-Chung (left) is Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. She graduated from the National Holistic Institute (NHI) in 1993 and has taught massage, health education and professional business practices at NHI for almost four years. She has practiced massage and health education throughout the United States, and has presented on bodywork and complementary healthcare in Brazil, Japan and the Philippines. Maya has studied the relationship of mental, emotional and social stress and trauma on the body-mind-spirit, and has integrated body-oriented and creative approaches to anti-racist and social justice work. She is currently a Masters Candidate in the Masters in Public Health/ Community Health Education Program at San Francisco State University with an emphasis on lesbian and transgender family health issues.

Pam VanHaitsma, MA, is experienced in crisis intervention, support group facilitation, and peer counseling with survivors of domestic and sexual violence. She has facilitated violence prevention workshops, as well as taught women’s studies, literature, and writing classes.
