Why LHRC?
We’re the only lesbian health and research organization housed within one of the world's premier health sciences institutions, the University of California, San Francisco. Since our founding in 1999, we’ve held frequent conferences, mentored lesbian health researchers, educated medical students and residents about LBTQ health issues and advocated for more research funding and the routine inclusion of LBTQ identifying questions in research protocols. Moreover, these achievements were accomplished despite the conservative political climate that created significant difficulties in securing funding and publicizing our efforts.
Why Now?
We’re on the cusp of history. The need for universal health care and the right of LBTQ people to be fully integrated into society are intersecting at the same time as never before. Our 10+ year track record as leaders in the forefront of lesbian health and research provides us with the experience and the network to effectively respond at this critical moment. No one is going to win these battles for us. You need us and we need you!
